Russell Brand fell out with Dig! director Ondi Timoner after she failed to recut this doc to his satisfaction. From precocious kid (his mother recalls his upset when she didn’t believe he was the messiah) through the Sachsgate scandal to political reinvention via marriage to Katy Perry, the ups and downs of Brand’s life are well rehearsed. Those who saw Michael Winterbottom’s The Emperor’s New Clothes will already know the “serious” stuff; this has more of what Jonathan Ross calls the “degrading exchange of fluids”. Brand emerges as exasperating company – variously intelligent, amusing and insufferable – but Noel Gallagher steals the show, declaring that he’ll only buy into Brand’s revolution if he can be the Duke of Manchester.
