Brainy pupils from Linlithgow Primary School finish second out of 440 schools in national competition

Brainy pupils at Linlithgow Primary pupils achieved a fantastic second place finish in in the Scotland-wide Euroquiz.

Team members Alasdair, Fraser, Calum and Keira demonstrated an impressive level of knowledge about European languages, history, geography, culture and European affairs to finish just two points behind overall winners, Strathblane Primary School in Stirling.

Euroquiz is run by the Scottish European Educational Trust (SEET). It sees teams of four working together to broaden their knowledge of Europe and the wider world.

Over 440 schools, involving over 2,200 pupils from across Scotland took part in Euroquiz Heats earlier this year, with the Linlithgow team of Alasdair, Ewan, Cameron and Duncan winning the West Lothian heat in March to secure their place in the online finals.

Clare Deas, Head teacher of Linlithgow Primary School, said: “We are all extremely proud of the team and their hard work, dedication and enthusiasm.

“The team faced some very challenging questions including: Do you know which currency is used in Hungary? Which European flag has white, green and red horizontal stripes in that sequence? Can you name one EU candidate country?

“This is a fantastic achievement for the team and for Linlithgow Primary School.”

Provost Tom Kerr said: “Congratulations to all the pupils from Linlithgow Primary who represented the school in the Euroquiz heats and finals.

“It was very impressive to win the West Lothian heat against strong competition, and to go so close to winning the Scotland-wide event is a superb accomplishment.”
