Braintree stabbing: Man charged with murder after death of Essex pub landlord

A man has been charged with the murder of a pub landlord who was found stabbed to death in Essex over the weekend.

Scott Gilhooly, 44, was found dead at The Swiss Bell Pub in Mountbatten Road in Braintree on Sunday after multiple emergency service vehicles scrambled to the scene following reports a body had been found.

A post-mortem examination carried out on Monday found he died as a result of stab wounds to the chest and neck.

Following the post-mortem examination, Essex Police said in a statement on Tuesday that 23-year-old Lawrence Bourke had been charged with the murder of Mr Gilhooly.

The accused, of Lister Road in Braintree, is due to appear by video-link at Chelmsford Magistrates’ Court later today.

Meanwhile, police are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding Mr Gilhooly’s death.

Officers have also been carrying out patrols in the local area.
