A brain injury survivor has launched a legal action for a six-figure sum against the van driver who mowed him down.

Samuel Cameron, 21, suffered multiple fractures to his skull and body after being run over in Paisley.

Van driver Martin Swan was convicted over the crash – he pleaded guilty to causing injury by careless driving at Paisley Sheriff Court on July 3, 2017, and was given a £350 fine and six penalty points.

Stuart Barton, partner in the Serious Injury Department at Digby Brown Solicitors, confirmed the action, which is due to start at the Court of Session in Edinburgh tomorrow.

He said: “Mr Cameron sustained life-long injuries as a result of being struck by Mr Swan. Our client’s ability to work has been drastically affected and he will also need extensive ongoing support.

“Mr Cameron continues to inspire those around him with the courage and determination he shows each day as he continues his recovery.

“There is nothing further we can say at this time as the legal action is live but our client would like to thank everyone who has provided support over the last few years.”
