Braidhurst High entered their poster designs in this year’s calendar competition

Art and Design pupils from Braidhurst High entered their poster designs in this year’s North Lanarkshire Calendar competition.

After all their hard work a good number of pupils were awarded highly commended.

This is a great result as there were over 1900 entries from schools all over North Lanarkshire and Braidhurst was pleased to gain so many commended awards.

Elsewhere, the school’s annual inter-house line dancing competition, which always rounds off the school’s festive celebrations, proved popular.

Pupils from all four houses: Atholl, Lorne, Morven and Rannoch took the competition very seriously and enthusiastically performed their line dancing routines to a variety of country songs.

Morven house was the overall winner but well done to all who participated.

Last week, the school welcomed Deputy First Minister John Swinney, Scottish FA representatives Rod Petrie, Brian McLaughlin and Malky Mackay, Motherwell and Wishaw MSP Clare Adamson, NLC Deputy Leader Paul Kelly, education convener Frank McNally and education officer Anne Munroe, amongst others, for a Scottish FA JD Performance School visit.

The event opened with a presentation and Q&A from Brian McLaughlin and Malky Mackay which was followed by current performance school players, Shay Nevans, Jack Bell, Jacob Blaney and Alastair Small sharing their perspective of the programme.

Former pupils Leon McCann and Cameron Williamson were also on hand to offer their experience.

The visitors were also given the chance to observe a coaching session of the players by Scotland coach Stevie Clarke on the school’s Astroturf pitch.
