Brahmins only as Sabarimala priest: Kerala HC plea challenges notification

KOCHI: A Hindu priest has approached the Kerala High Court challenging the notification issued by Travancore Devaswom Board (TDB) limiting applications to the post of Santhikkaran at Sabarimala Temple only from ‘Malayala Brahmin’ community.

The petition was filed by Vishnunarayanan CV of Moolavattom in Kottayam through advocate Santhosh Mathew.

As per the petition, the notification was issued by TDB on May 27th and it is alleged by the petitioner that it is against the provisions of the Constitution and the judgments of the Supreme Court. He points out that he is qualified and eligible to be appointed to the post except for the requirement of being a ‘Malayala Brahmin’.
