Braga stopper targets statement Rangers result as 'complicated' Europa League clash has last eight rivals in a hurry

Braga goalkeeper Matheus us targeting a huge first leg advantage ahead of the crucial showdown with Rangers.

Gio van Bronckhorst 's men travel to Portugal in the first leg of the Europa League quarter-finals and as they look to recover from derby defeat to Celtic.

The stopper is full of confidence after knocking out Monaco in the last round and beating Champions League quarter-finalists Benfica on Saturday.

Matheus hopes the wave of momentum will carry them to a lead before the second leg at Ibrox.

He said: "We know what's coming and we know it will be a very complicated tie against Rangers.

"We've been working on this game a lot and we are all aware the first leg is going to be very important for us. We need to win and that's only possible if we play at our best level.

"I played at Ibrox and I know how strong Rangers are when they play at home, so the first leg is vital.

"But I am confident we will be able to progress to the semi-finals.

"I have enjoyed playing for our manager Carlos Carvalhal because he believes the goalkeeper is the one responsible for starting attacks.

"Everything starts from me. We have a very young squad and I hope I am able to help them with my experience.

"I am very happy in this city and in this club. I hope to continue to make history with this shirt and help the club to continue to grow as it has in recent years."
