Braga hit by fraud allegations as Rangers Europa League rivals forced to issue denial

Braga have been hit with allegations of tax fraud and money laundering just weeks before they face Rangers.

The Portuguese side travel to Glasgow later this month in the Europa League with the return leg a week later.

But Braga have been rocked by reports in the media that the club and president Antonio Salvador are being investigated by Portugal's Public Prosecutors Office for the serious offences, along with other clubs in the country.

It prompted the club to issue a statement denying any wrongdoing.

It stated: "We are unaware of any ongoing investigation and we have not received any contact from the authorities.

"Our financial affairs are all publicly accessible and are verified and validated by auditors and regulators, as well as by regulars inspections of the Tax Authority.

"SC Braga regrets and repudiates the publication of information that is detrimental to our good name."

Braga are on a run of seven wins in a row which included them winning the Portuguese League Cup. They face Gil Vicente in the league today hoping to consolidate third spot.
