Braga boss won't quit despite sack calls ahead of Celtic game

Beleaguered Braga boss Carlos Vicens insists he won't quit ahead of this week's Europa League crunch at Celtic despite his own fans waving white handkerchiefs at him.

Celtic welcome the Portuguese side to Parkhead for their second game in the league phase of the competition, after a 1-1 draw in Serbia last week against Red Star Belgrade.

But although Braga got off to a fine start last week with a home win over Feyenoord, their domestic form is poor after they slumped to a home weekend loss to Nacional to make it five league games in a row without a win.

At full time, the home fans waved white handkerchiefs at their Spanish manager after the latest defeat.

But Vicens insists they will improve ahead of their visit to Glasgow after promising to wield the axe.

He said: "I am very disappointed because we didn't show the passion and commitment we displayed against Feyenoord in the Europa League.

"We have to continue working to improve starting immediately, including myself, so you will see a different version of Braga in Scotland.

"If I have to make changes to freshen up the team, I will.

"We can't just be raising our games for big matches - it has to be the same level in every match.

"I am certain I can get the players to improve.

"It's true that we've gone five games without a win in the league, but the season doesn't stop and there are games every three days.

"I still have the strength and energy for the job and I know I can change the mentality here."
