Braehead family left desperate after loved family parrot flies away from home

A Braehead family are launching a frantic search after their much-loved family parrot unexpectedly flew away from home on Wednesday morning.

Lauren Graham and husband Andrew have been out and about in the community looking for African Grey Gizmo - who has been with them for 17 years - after he flew out of his cage at the family's home in Abbot Road.

The pair have contacted both the SSPCA and neighbours to look out for any potential sightings, but they have received no word - and have now appealed on social media for locals to keep an eye out.

Lauren told the Observer: "We've had Gizmo for 17 years and she has never been outside unless he has been securely in her cage.

"She hasn't really been curious or anything like that before but we were giving her food and water on Wednesday morning and she just made a dash for it.

"She flew all the way towards the big trees at the end of the street so Andrew and I ran down after her shouting and asking neighbours to keep an eye out in case she ended up in their gardens.

"We've heard nothing unfortunately so far and the SSPCA don't have any reported sightings, so we've made posters and the community have been great in getting the word out there.

"Gizmo is a really big part of the family and we have two young boys so we're all really distraught and just hoping she will turn up somewhere."
