Bradley Welsh murder: Police under 'investigation' over actions prior to the shooting

Police are "being investigated" over their actions prior to the murder of Bradley Welsh.

The 48-year-old was brutally gunned down "on his doorstep" at his flat in Chester Street in Edinburgh's West End last month.

The probe will examine the actions taken by officers after the Trainspotting 2 star was issued with a threat to life notice, known as an "Osman".

Police Scotland allegedly referred themselves to the Police Investigations and Review Commissioner (PIRC) after issues were raised over the handling of the case prior to Mr Welsh's murder, the Daily Record reports.

A source said: "Police Scotland referred itself to the PIRC over the Osmans. It’s basically an a***-covering exercise over the handling prior to his murder."

Speaking to the Daily Record, a police source said Welsh was warned there was a serious threat to his life but refused help from police officers.

Another police insider revealed: "Welsh was warned his life was in danger but he refused help and advice from police.

"Whether this is because he didn’t believe it was a credible threat or thought he could handle it himself is something that investigators will need to establish.

"I would imagine there will also be questions asked whether Police Scotland could have done more before the murder."

Police inquiries into the murder of Bradley Welsh are ongoing and they have recently released CCTV images of a vehicle they believe may be linked to the murder.

It is also known that five other people have been issued with same threat to life warnings however they cannot be named due to legal reasons.
