Bradley Walsh's pronunciation of 'cawl' on The Chase was spot on

Bradley Walsh proved his time in Wales filming Doctor Who has paid dividends as he nailed the pronunciation of one of our most delicious dishes on The Chase.

With the final contestant getting quizzed on a recent episode of the teatime general knowledge quiz - which pits members of the public against a 'Chaser' aka super quizzer - a question came up asking about 'cawl.'

The answer options were either Scottish pudding, English pie or Welsh broth.

And while Matt the contestant chose the right answer, as did Chaser Darragh Ennis, Bradley went into a spiel about how it could also potentially be pronounced 'call' as in Porthcawl.

"It could be pronounced 'call' as in Porthcawl, couldn't it?" said the host to the nodding quizzers.

Bradley worked on two series of Doctor Who alongside Jodie Whittaker as Graham O'Brian and has recently been seen in Cardiff with new companion, John Bishop, having a coffee, and clearly made an effort to learn some Welsh pronunciations.

Nice shoutout for Porthcawl from Brad (ITV)

We don't really have the heart to tell him that 'Porthcawl' should really be pronounced the same as the delicious broth - but if he keeps coming back to Wales as much as he has been, it might catch on.

Back in the spring Bradley was presenting The Chase spin-off, Beat the Chasers, when the Welsh word for peach shocked him.

The presenter asked contestant Caroline: "The Welsh term for a peach, 'eirin gwlanog', translates into English as what?"

The multiple-choice answered offered wooly pear, wooly apple and wooly plum, with Caroline taking a punt on the latter. She was right and Bradley just couldn't believe it.
