Bradley Stoke Library closed following positive coronavirus case

A library has been temporarily closed after a member of staff tested positive for coronavirus.

Bradley Stoke Library will remain shut until next Thursday (December 17) due to a shortage of staff.

The council said the staff shortage was down to the fact staff were having to self-isolate because of the potential contact with a colleague who tested positive for Covid-19.

In a statement South Gloucestershire Council said: “Bradley Stoke Library is unfortunately temporarily closed until Thursday, December 17 due to a shortage of staff owing to the need to self-isolate from potential contact with a colleague who has tested positive for Covid-19.”

The council said the risk to members of the public who may have visited the library is “extremely low”, and that measures are in place to protect everyone.

All items currently on loan have been renewed until January 2.

Filton Library is also currently closed following major building work and will reopen on Saturday, January 2, meaning the nearest alternative library is Patchway.

South Gloucestershire is currently under tier 3 restrictions, which means public buildings including libraries are allowed to open.

When visiting a library the rules are to wear a face covering unless you are exempt, maintain social distancing and follow the one-way systems in place.

In most libraries in South Gloucestershire you can still borrow books using a self-service machine and book one hour free use of a computer or WiFi each day, for “essential purposes.”

All the normal services still remain available including returning and renewing books, photocopying and children’s takeaway crafts.

But you cannot read a newspaper or magazine, use the study spaces or Open Access during this time, according to South Gloucestershire Council.
