Bradley Chubb shines in Broncos’ 24-15 loss to 49ers

The Denver Broncos lost to the San Francisco 49ers 24-15 on “Monday Night Football” in Week 2 of NFL preseason on Monday evening. The game was marred by an injury to rookie quarterback Drew Lock.

Lock had to leave the game in the second half with what appeared to be a right thumb injury. The team described Lock’s injury as a hand injury. Before leaving the game, Lock went 7-of-12 passing for 40 yards and rushed twice for 11 yards. X-rays on Lock’s right hand came back negative.

There was some good injury news for the Broncos on Monday. Wide receiver Emmanuel Sanders made his return to the field after suffering an Achilles injury last December. Sanders caught a five-yard out on Denver’s first play of the game and rushed for 19 yards shortly thereafter.

Sanders also caught a 41-yard pass from Joe Flacco but the play was negated when left tackle Garett Bolles was penalized for holding. Sanders looked explosive and seems to be completely healthy again.

On defense, Denver’s starters dominated San Francisco’s first-team offense, with second-year outside linebacker Bradley Chubb leading the way. Chubb’s pressure forced quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo to throw an interception in the first quarter.

In the second quarter, Chubb sacked backup quarterback C.J. Beathard and forced a fumble. The edge defender finished the game with three tackles and one sack. Chubb appears poised to have a big year playing in Vic Fangio’s defense.

Up next for the Broncos is a road game against the Los Angeles Rams on Saturday, Aug. 24 at 7:00 p.m. on KTVD-20.
