Brad Wanamaker agrees to terms with Celtics on one-year deal

With Kemba Walker and Enes Kanter, there are certainly some new faces in Boston, but Brad Wanamaker joins Daniel Theis among the reserves from last season’s Celtics squad that will return to the team for the 2019-20 season.

Wanamaker will return to the Celtics on a one-year deal, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski. Terms of the deal were not immediately available, but it is assumed to be a one-year deal for the minimum allowable salary.

Last season, Wanamaker played sparingly for Brad Stevens’ club—just 9.5 minutes per contest. Still, after signing with Boston last July, the 29-year-old rookie was brought back by the club.

With the departure of Kyrie Irving and Terry Rozier, it’s possible that he will see some increased usage in what will be his second season in Boston.

The re-signing of Wanamaker is the latest move by Danny Ainge’s staff as they attempt to rebound from the departure of Irving and continue to toil toward reestablishing the franchise as one of the elite in the NBA’s Eastern Conference.

Although he will likely be an eighth-man type, one thing that most successful NBA teams have is continuity. For that reason alone, bringing Wanamaker back made lots of sense for the Celtics.
