TROON, Scotland _ Jordan Spieth has proved to be a most excellent host the past couple of years, inviting a few tour players to bunk in his Dallas mansion during AT&T Byron Nelson week.
In March, Spieth, Rickie Fowler, Justin Thomas and fellow tour player Smylie Kaufman Snapchatted moments of their epic Spring Break trip to the Bahamas.
Well, the boys are still being boys this week in Scotland. Spieth, Fowler and Thomas are among six players sharing a house in Troon.
"A little frat house," is how Thomas described it after shooting a 4-under 67 in Thursday's first round of the British Open.
The identities of the house's other frat boys might come as a surprise. Spieth is 22, Thomas 23 and Fowler 27. The other housemates are Jimmy Walker, Jason Dufner (39) and Zach Johnson (40).
Hey, boys just wanna have fun, regardless of age.
On Wednesday afternoon they planned to walk along the Firth of Clyde, but Fowler travels with two baseball gloves and a ball. Initially, Fowler and Walker started playing catch, but soon everyone joined in.
"We just started finding balls everywhere in the yard," Thomas said. "Soccer balls and tennis balls ... Then we found something we could use as a bat, so we pretty much started playing backyard baseball."
This went on for nearly three hours.
"I hit a couple of dingers," Spieth said. "But Duff was on fire."
Perhaps not as much fun as Spieth's house, which has a golf simulator and other expensive toys.
The Scottish Frat house does, though, have a big TV and movies from which to choose. Those viewed so far this week include The Other Guys, The Equalizer and Tommy Boy.
"You know," Thomas said. "Just your typical guy movies."
Oh, and there's one other fellow staying in the place. A chef.
Anyone who's ever attempted Scottish food understands what a coup it's been for the players to get steaks, chicken, brisket tacos and quesadillas this week.
"Typical Americans, we want to stick with what we know," Thomas said. "I think he's saved us all, for sure."
