Brad Stevens ‘knew [Vince Carter] would go off’ Saturday vs. Celtics

Atlanta Hawks wing Vince Carter scored over 15 points for only the fifth time since the calendar turned over in his team’s 129-120 loss for the Boston Celtics on Saturday. He finished 6 for 11 from the floor, going 4 for 6 from deep in his 16-point game off the bench.

Carter’s role on Atlanta’s roster has been primarily to be the veteran voice to help lead this young team down a successful path. Being a 42-year-old in the NBA, he’s seen a few things — and lost a step or two.

But he can still throw down every once in a while.

Carter is only a few months younger than Celtics head coach Brad Stevens, who told reporters he had an idea the future hall-of-famer would have a solid showing on Saturday.

I hated playing Vince Carter today because I know, as a 42-year-old, I like noon tips. so I’m sure he does. We knew he’d go off.

Maybe the Hawks should lobby to have more matinee games so long as Carter remains on the roster.
