Brad Stevens encouraged by Marcus Morris’ performance vs. Kings

Marcus Morris finished the Boston Celtics’ West Coast road trip with a tough shooting night, in a game where the entire team struggled. He shot 33 percent from the floor and played less than his average 27. 5 minutes per game (24:39) as a result.

At first, It seemed some of what went wrong against the Los Angeles Clippers on Monday carried into Morris’ play on Thursday. He was only 3 for 10 from the floor (1 for 5 from deep) at the half.

That changed in the second half.

Morris both shot more efficiently and shot a little less frequently, going 4 for 5 (2 for 2 from deep), finishing with 22 points by the game’s end. Brad Stevens told reporters Morris’ turnaround in the second half was a big part of the Celtics holding on to the lead.

I thought Morris kept us afloat there for a while. At the end of the first half, the start of the third quarter, made some plays at the end of the third quarter, made some plays at the end of the game. I thought he dug deep because I thought he looked — he looked like he was a little bit tired in those first six minutes of the game coming off the trip. That’s really encouraging when you get a guy that’s just going to dig deep and figure it out for you.
