Brad Stevens: Celtics ‘were lucky to be where we were’ in first half

The Milwaukee Bucks ran away with a 123-102 win over the Boston Celtics in Game 2 in large part thanks to dominating the green 39-18 in the third quarter. Entering halftime, the Celtics were only down 59-55.

However, Brad Stevens told reporters after the loss in Milwaukee the Celtics were lucky to be within striking distance at the half.

They were great tonight, they deserved to win. We need to look at what we can do better. But we knew that they were gonna be really good tonight. We talked about matching their urgency and beating their urgency, but we weren’t. We didn’t do that. Even in the first half, you could see, like, ‘Boy we were lucky to be where we were,’ I thought.

The Bucks had 11 threes at the half on 26 attempts (42.3 percent) which was a large part of why the Milwaukee had an edge over the C’s. By the end of the night, the Bucks drained 20 threes on 47 attempts, with Khris Middleton leading the charge, making seven of his 10 attempts.

Milwaukee’s ability to create quality looks in from long distance in Game 2 may be the Celtics top priority when studying the film heading into Game 3.
