Brad Salem grades his performance as a play-caller in Tulsa game

Mark Dantonio’s new offensive coordinator Brad Salem, formerly Michigan State’s running backs coach, has not called a game of football since 2009 at Division II Augustana in South Dakota. That all changed last Friday against Tulsa and the results were… mixed. Today, Chris Solari of the Detroit Free Press released Salem’s comments and he was critical of his own performance.

Here are Salem’s comments when asked to grade his playcalling on Friday, reported by Chris Solari:

“I’d just say losing when you score one touchdown. I gotta be better, and everybody does. That’s the goal as you go through the week. Obviously, you got film and evidence to look at. And the biggest thing is the critiquing that happens. It’s coach talk, but between Week 1 and 2. Those are the things that’s real now. You get experiences in scrimmages that you felt good about in the fall. But now, the real thing happened. Now, we’ve gotta be able to change that.”

Salem also commented on what he thought the offense could do to improve:
