Brad Pitt sparks fury as he flies to Belgium during Covid wave despite strict lockdown

Brad Pitt has been met with backlash after he was spotted in Belgium, despite the country being put into a strict lockdown amid a third wave of Covid-19.

The Hollywood actor, 57, sparked fury after flying into Brussels on a "working trip" during a big rise in coronavirus cases.

Brad, who is currently going through a divorce with Angelina Jolie, is reported to have stayed in a fancy suite at a top hotel and to have been given a private guided tour of an art gallery, even though it's closed to the public due to the pandemic.

He was pictured out and about dressed in blue trousers with a matching shirt and jacket.

His long hair was tucked behind his ears and he wore sunglasses and a protective face mask.

Belgium is currently closed to all but essential travellers and under strict lockdown restrictions as the country fights its third wave of the deadly virus.

Belgium has the third-highest death date per capita in the world.

Anyone arriving in the country for essential business has to sign a declaration "on their honour" that their trip is for "purely professional reasons".

After seeing pictures of Brad, some locals took to social media to question why he was allowed into the country.

One fumed: "Non-essential trips are for bidden? Not if you’re rich! And don’t say he’s here to support his friend. People here can’t visit family members abroad, but celebs can do whatever they want. It’s scandalous."

Another penned: "It doesn’t sound essential to me. And why do you need to start hugging each other?"

Despite the backlash, there is no suggestion that Brad's visit to Belgium is a breach of the rules, and it's thought that he was allowed into the country to "support" his friend, British artist Thomas Houseago.

Brad and the LA-based artist, 49, have grown close during his divorce battle with his Mr and Mrs Smith co-star, with whom he shares six children.

Thomas is in Belgium preparing for an exhibition at the Royal Museums of Fine Arts, which is home to the famous Manneken Pis statue.

Brad and Thomas have been pictured, alongside another friend, standing in front of another famous artwork, The Fall of the Rebel Angels by Pieter Bruegel.

Brad's representatives did not want to comment when contacted by the Mirror.
