Brad Pitt’s mother, Jane Etta Pitt, has passed away at 84.
The sad news was announced by her granddaughter, Sydney Pitt, who is the daughter of Brad’s brother Doug, in a moving Instagram tribute of pictures of Jane throughout her life.
“My sweet Grammy, Jane Etta, we were not ready for you to go yet but knowing you are finally free to sing, dance, and paint again makes it a tad easier,” she wrote in the caption.
She added that her grandma “could keep up with all 14 of us grandkids without missing a beat”.

“If you knew Grammy, you knew she had the biggest heart,” Sydney added.
“She cared deeply for everyone and everything, no questions asked.
“She taught me how to paint, how to be strong, how to lead with kindness, to love Jesus through everything, and to find joy in the smallest things.”
Sydney concluded the post: “We were truly blessed to have her to love on growing up and I know she lives on through each of us.”
A former school counsellor, Jane Etta married her husband William Alvin Pitt in 1962, and they had three children, the eldest being Brad.
Brad’s parents would often attend his red carpet events.
Last month police in Los Angeles were investigating a break-in at a property reportedly owned by Brad, after three suspects allegedly “ransacked” the home while the actor was out of the country promoting his film, F1.
The burglary is the latest in a series of high-profile incidents targeting celebrity homes in the city - other recent victims include Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban, Austin Butler and LAFC footballer Olivier Giroud.
According to LAPD spokesperson Officer Drake Madison, the suspects gained access by shattering a front window, searched through the property, and fled the scene with an undisclosed number of stolen items.
Property records indicate that Brad purchased the house for $5.5 million (£4.35m) in April 2023, according to real estate platform Traded.
Earlier this year, Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson’s home was also reportedly broken into during daylight hours.
According to NBC News, the LAPD’s Chief of Police revealed that residential burglaries in the city have risen by 4% in 2024, with more than half of the cases involving private homes similar to the one linked to Brad.
