Brad Pitt made the Friends reunion possible by encouraging ex-wife Jennifer Aniston

Brad Pitt has been heralded as the reason that the Friends reunion is happening after reportedly pushing Jennifer Aniston to take part.

Jennifer, 51, is believed to have sought advice from her ex-husband after being reluctant to return alongside her Friends co-stars.

Rumoured to have been the most resistant of the cast to stage a comeback, Jennifer was finally pushed by Brad to say ‘yes’ after a string of meetings.

“After reuniting with Brad at her birthday last year, she asked him for advice. He said he thought it would be a great idea to honour their success and that fans still hold the show in such high regard,” a source explained to Closer Magazine .

The Hollywood insider then explained to the publication that Brad - who once had a cameo in Friends himself - advised her that it was the right time for her to agree.

“He told her it feels like the right time to get back together and encouraged her change of heart.

“He advised her to say ‘yes’ when everyone got together in October to celebrate the show’s 25th anniversary.”

As a result of his encouragement, the loyal Friends fan base were over the moon.

The popular actors - who are rumoured to make a cool £2 million each for their appearance - confirmed a comeback on February 21.

It’s been 15 years since the popular cast last graced our screens with their presence, but the lovable cast made up of Jennifer, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc, David Schwimmer and Matthew Perry have confirmed their return in May.

The internet erupted in a frenzy when the cast - all now in their fifties - took to social media to share a new promo snap alongside the caption “it’s happening.”

There are several caveats to the comeback, however, which will air on HBO Max in a few short months.

The one-off is anticipated to be in the form of a chat show interview and the cast won’t even be reviving their famous characters.

Although some fans might not be best pleased that they won’t see a return of Rachel per se, the actress is said to be ‘grateful’ that Brad had pushed her in the right direction, according to the magazine.

Jen and Brad, who were married for five years back in the noughties before a public split, have sparked countless rumours recently of a romantic revival after being spotted looking really friendly at recent events.

Regardless of their questionable relationship status, fans can breathe a sigh of relief that Brad reportedly inspired his former wife to take the plunge.

Representatives for Brad and Jen have been contacted for comment.
