Brad Pitt BAFTA speech aims digs over Brexit and Harry in front of Royal couple

Hollywood superstar Brad Pitt bagged a BAFTA award on Sunday evening - and took the opportunity to have a few digs at us Brits in his acceptance speech.

Even Prince Harry wasn't spared from the 56-year-old's jokes, as there were quips about Brexit and 'Megxit' - right in front of prince's brother, Prince William and his sister-in-law, Kate.

Pitt bagged the coveted Best Actor in a Supporting Role award for his performance as Cliff Booth in Quentin Tarantino's ninth film, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, though he was unable to attend the London ceremony 'due to family obligations'.

Margot Robbie, Pitt's co-star in the film, picked the award up on his behalf reports Manchester Evening News.

Taking to the stage, Margot said: "He starts by saying, 'Hey Britain, I heard you just became single. Welcome to the club.

"Wishing you the best with the divorce settlement, blah blah blah."

This was met with laughter from the audience.

The dig comes after the UK left the European Union on Friday, January 31 after three and a half years of negotiations following the referendum vote back in 2016.

Brad went on to thank the academy for the 'extreme honour' for the 'especially meaningful award' before Margot then reeled off a list of names of cast members, crew, and director Quentin Tarantino.

She said: "He goes on by thanking you again blah blah blah, it's a bit much really.

"Oh and he also says he's going to name this Harry [gestures to award] 'cause he is really excited about bringing it back to the States with him."

As laughter filled the auditorium, Margot added: "His words not mine!"

The camera immediately span to Prince William and Kate who were seen laughing together, which viewers described as 'awkward' and 'cringey'.

Thankfully, the royal couple could see the funny side following Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's announcement of stepping down as senior royals last month.

Some viewers took to social media to post clips of the actress on stage, with one Twitter-user saying: "How very awkward."

@Neilby_Gooner said: "Oops Not sure #PrinceWilliam liked that quip lol #BradPitt #BAFTA"

Another said: "Most cringey laugh Kate and William ever made lol."

A few weeks ago at the SAG Awards, Brad also made a nod to his single relationship status in his award acceptance speech for Outstanding Supporting Actor for the same film.

He said on stage: "I've got to add this to my Tinder profile."

And added: "I wanted to bring my mom but I couldn't, because anyone I stand next to, they say I’m dating. And that would just be awkward."
