Brad Pitt advocated use of face masks months before deadly coronavirus pandemic

Brad Pitt questioned why we were not wearing face masks months before the coronavirus pandemic and advocated their use long before they became mandatory in some places.

The 56-year-old Hollywood actor was pondering why masks were not being used as a matter of course after finding them being used daily during a trip to Japan.

Brad found the widespread use of face masks when he went to the Far East for a press conference in September 2019 and began saying that they were a good idea, especially in the prevention of the spread of infection, some seven months before coronavirus brought the world into lockdown.

Brad has seen his fellow Americans struggle with the concept of using masks to prevent coronavirus spreading but he was way ahead with his views on what masks can do to help.

During his publicity tour for his film Ad Astra, Brad said in Japan: "I see someone in a face mask back there.

"When I first came here and I saw all the people in the faces masks at the airport, I thought, ‘That’s a bit paranoid — why are they so paranoid?'.

“Then I came to understand it’s when you have a cold and [you’re] protecting others — and I think that’s so considerate.”

He went on to comment that he thought masks should have been in widespread use way before Covid-19.

Brad continued: “I don’t know why the rest of the world… I don’t know why we don’t do that.”

With the United States having the highest death toll from coronavirus, it has been urged that face masks are used to help halt the spread of infection.

This has been difficult to enforce though and many Americans are still shunning the use of face coverings.

Brad's resurfaced comments come as ex-wife Jennifer Aniston took to social media to urge her followers to use a mask.

The 51-year-old shared a selfie of herself wearing a face mask, captioning the snap: "I understand masks are inconvenient and uncomfortable. But don’t you feel that it’s worse that businesses are shutting down… jobs are being lost… health care workers are hitting absolute exhaustion.

"And so many lives have been taken by this virus because we aren’t doing enough.

“This simple and effective recommendation is being politicised at the expense of peoples’ lives…If you care about human life, please… just #wearadamnmask."
