Brad Friedel backs Newcastle United star Miguel Almiron to be a Premier League star

Former Premier League star Brad Friedel has backed Miguel Almiron to be a star, describing him as the best player in MLS before his departure for Newcastle United.

Like Almiron, Friedel made the move to the English top flight from the MLS and understands better than most how difficult it can be to adapt.

The Paraguay international, who moved to Newcastle back in January from Atlanta United, has made 13 appearances for the Magpies to date but is yet to register a goal or an assist.

But Friedel, who watched the 25-year-old a lot as part of his previous role as New England Revolution's head coach, has backed Almiron to be a success.

Friedel, speaking exclusively to  BonusCodeBets, said: "When Miguel Almiron was at Atlanta, he was by far the best player in the league. They were decent without him but he has a different gear, and it was difficult to keep up with him.

"He has pace, a great left foot and good vision. He has the attributes to do very well.

"He could one day play for one of the big clubs. I’m not saying Newcastle aren’t one, but he could be a player that could do better for the bigger clubs as he’ll get more time and space, with time on the counter attack.”
