• According to ananova, Brad Pitt and Benicio Del Toro are in line for roles in the film version of Anthony Bourdains bestselling book Kitchen Confidential. The film, to be called Seared, lifts the lid on New York's culinary scene and is set to be directed by David Fincher who worked with Pitt on Fight Club. Bourdain, who is about to embark on his first television series, is delighted with the potential castings: "Brad Pitt is supposed to be attached to the movie and I'd love it if Benicio was in it. I'm a huge fan of his."

• Joaquin Phoenix is to star alongside Mel Gibson in a new supernatural thriller from Sixth Sense director M Night Shyamalan. Signs, which revolves around the mysterious appearances of crop circles in Pennsylvania, will begin filming in October. Phoenix will replace Mark Ruffalo, who was forced to drop out of the project because he is recovering from a minor ear operation.

• Kate Beckinsale is in negotiations to join the cast of the independent feature Laurel Canyon for writer-director Lisa Cholodenko. The British actress would join Frances McDormand in the story of a free-spirited Los Angeles record producer whose son returns from Harvard with a blue-blooded girlfriend. American Psycho star Christian Bale is rumoured to be up for the role of McDormand's son in the feature.

• Thelma and Louise star Geena Davis has married for the fourth time, it was revealed yesterday. The 45-year-old actress married surgeon Rreza Jarrahy, 15 years her junior, at a low-key ceremony in Long Island, New York.
