Brace yourself for some of the most scathing movie reviews this year

Zoolander 2, Warcraft and Alice Through the Looking Glass are among the most harshly reviewed films of the year.
Zoolander 2, Warcraft and Alice Through the Looking Glass are among the most harshly reviewed films of the year.

Sometimes movie reviews can be more interesting than the actual movies.

A number of films have been panned in 2016, so we've compiled a list of the most dissed movies and the most scathing things written about them:

THE BOSS:

"Well, they can't all be Bridesmaids." - Toronto Sun

"The Boss is sketch comedy, with none of the lines coloured in." - The Atlantic

"It's just early April, but I have an early contender for the most loathsome, ill-advised, horribly executed, most spectacularly unfunny movie scene of the year." - Chicago Sun-Times

LONDON HAS FALLEN:

"London Has Fallen is Donald Trump in film form." - ChristyLemire.com

"London Has Fallen is remarkable only because of how much worse it is than its inane predecessor, 2013's Olympus Has Fallen." - Washington Post

"London Has Fallen is one of those rare films that is good at absolutely nothing." - AV Club

THE 5TH WAVE:

"Have you ever dreamt with your eyes open? Have you ever sat in a theatre wondering who keeps snoring, only to wonder if it might be you? There are new experiences to be had here, not experiences that you'd want, but experiences." - San Francisco Chronicle

"The screenwriters so excessively telegraph each plot twist that the entire script may well have been written in Morse code." - TheWrap

"The whole thing appears to have been designed by some crazed Oedipal wing of the N.R.A." - New Yorker

ZOOLANDER 2:

"Zoolander No. 2 is embarrassing, lazy, and aggressively unfunny. The only good news is that at the pace the franchise is moving, we won't get Zoolander 3 until 2030." - Entertainment Weekly

"When Kiefer Sutherland is the funniest person in your movie, you have a problem." - San Jose Mercury News

"How bad is Zoolander 2? It's Batman and Robin bad." - New York Magazine

MY BIG FAT GREEK WEDDING 2:

"Feels about as fresh as two-day old spanakopita." - Tribune News Service

"Feels like you're watching an entire season of Modern Family in fast-forward." - Time Out

"It's a big fat Greek dud." - Detroit News

WARCRAFT:

"Almost worth watching, if you still find yourself at loose ends after you've given the dog a bath, organised 10 years' worth of tax returns and completely moth-proofed your closet." - Time magazine

"A once-in-a-generation disaster, and one of the most ill-advised and ill-conceived studio films of this modern blockbuster era." - indieWIRE

"This is a film that requires an instruction manual going in - or perhaps years of training alongside solemn mages - simply to possess the superhuman endurance needed to enjoy it." - The Atlantic

ALICE THROUGH THE LOOKING GLASS:

"'I fear I may never see you again,' Alice laments to the Hatter toward the end of the movie. After one sequel too many, we can only hope she's right." - Washington Post

"If you see Alice Through the Looking Glass, prepare to lean forward in your seat just to stay awake." - San Francisco Chronicle

"I don't remember the last time I saw actors more dispirited and bored than in Alice Through the Looking Glass." - The New Republic

DIRTY GRANDPA:

"Dirty Grandpa is like watching a friend's mediocre improv troupe do an extended spring-break sketch. And your friend just happens to be Robert De Niro." - New York Times

"Dirty Grandpa feels like spending 100-plus minutes with a scatological toddler, proudly showing you what he made in his diaper. Don't look if you don't have to." - Entertainment Weekly

"I began giggling with a kind of metaphysical embarrassment for everyone involved in the enterprise, and, eventually, for all of humanity itself." - RogerEbert.com

NOW YOU SEE ME 2:

"Try to remember this movie, a few days after seeing it, and you'll find that - like magic - it's disappeared." - Seattle Times

"This flashy, brain dead sequel turns 2013's dumbest movie into 2016's dumbest franchise." - indieWIRE

"By the time we get to the London-based finale, the illusion the Horsemen pull off comes across as just completely implausible. It's almost as if the filmmakers were saying - didja get all that? Well, too bad." - Toronto Sun

MOTHER'S DAY:

"Mother's Day is a total mess, but what's truly offensive is that they didn't even try to make this cynical, post-Sunday brunch cash grab even remotely watchable. Your mum deserves so much better this Mother's Day." - Tribune News Service

"Want some racism and sexism with your holiday celebration? The repellent Mother's Day has a surprising, distasteful, and shameful amount of both." - Chesapeake Family Magazine

"Alleged comedy relief comes in the form of racist jokes and gags about the male fear of sanitary products. You have been warned." - Scotsman
