Bra blocked Gateshead pumping station after being flushed down the loo

A bra was found blocking a pumping station after being flushed down the toilet.

In a post on Facebook on Wednesday morning, the company said they had found a bra at the pumping station in Gateshead.

The bra had been blocking the station, which the company said could have caused some "nasty consequences".

They said the blockage could have caused the sewer to flood into someone's home.

The post urged people to not throw their unwanted items down the loo, and rather throw them in the bin.

The company said they usually find bizarre things, that shouldn't be flushed. But the post also urged people to not throw wipes down the toilet, as they have a great chance of causing a problem.

The post said: "Folks, we know things have changed over the last year. Some items are just not getting the wear they used to.

"But please, if you don’t want it anymore, pop it in the bin. Don’t flush it down the loo.

"This one blocked one of our pumping stations in Gateshead and it could have had nasty consequences, such as sewer flooding in someone’s home, or to the environment.

"In all seriousness, we occasionally find bizarre things like this, and they shouldn’t be flushed.

"But never forget the biggest problem comes from things that seem much less likely, but have just as great a chance, of causing a problem: WIPES".
