BP giving free fuel to emergency services during Covid-19 pandemic

As the nation is encouraged to stay at home during the Covid-19 pandemic, NHS frontline staff and members of the emergency services will be showing up for their shifts at work as normal.

Staying at home isn’t an option for these workers and it has prompted many companies to offer support to those members of staff in any way they can.

Fuel giant BP has announced it will be giving away free petrol and diesel to all emergency services from Saturday, March 21 from over 1,200 BP-operated and dealer-operated retail sites.

This will be offered through fuel cards that are widely used by ambulance, fire and police vehicles.

Bernard Looney, BP chief executive said: “This crisis is affecting every part of society and all of us are trying to do what we can to help. It is vital that we support those on whom we all depend, as well as the most vulnerable in our communities.

"We have identified two ways where we can use our resources and presence around the country to make a small contribution. We will continue to look for other opportunities, taking advice from the authorities, as the country’s response continues to evolve.”

BP will also waiver any charges for delivery of food and convenience goods purchased from its network of company-owned convenience stores from March 23.

This includes any purchases made through Deliveroo for items from its retail branches - find out more here.

BP has joined a growing list of popular brands to offer support to frontline staff during the coronavirus outbreak.
