Boyzone's Ronan Keating called out for 'callous' Strictly remarks on BBC The One Show

Ronan Keating has been called out for a cheeky comment made in front of Strictly Come Dancing competitor Fleur East.

The singer was filming BBC’s The One Show on Tuesday. Fleur East, who narrowly avoided elimination from the competition last week, spoke to Ronan and the other presenters about the challenges of the series.

However, Ronan showed little sympathy for the ‘Sax’ singer who fought to remain in the competition. Co-presenter Alex Jones reminded the Boyzone star of a jibe he had made prior to filming.

Alex told viewers: “Well, as Ronan said earlier, callous some would say, somebody's got to go.”

Ronan, visibly surprised by the remark, asked if he had really said that, as the audience laughed. Alex tried to reassure viewers and Fleur that her co-presenter was “a lovely boy really” in spite of the surprising comment.

Although Ronan has never competed in the official Strictly series, he participated alongside his Boyzone band members in a Children in Need special of the show. Mikey Graham, Shane Lynch and Keith Duffy joined him on the Strictly dancefloor in 2018, where each member was partnered up with a Strictly professional.

His recent comments may have been shaped by his performance in the Children in Need show, as Ronan failed to lift the Glitter Ball Trophy. Instead, Shane Lynch won the Strictly special alongside his professional partner Luba Musktuk.

Ronan recently opened up about the loss of band member Stephen Gately on the 13th anniversary of his death. Stephen tragically passed away from a heart defect in 2009 in Mallorca, Spain.

Ronan posted a series of photos of Stephen on Instagram to commemorate the late singer. There was also a photo of the band during their early years in the 1990s.

He captioned the photos on Instagram: “13 years and it doesn’t get any easier because I know how much living ya had in ya. Miss ya dude. A heavy heart.”
