Dec. 23--Lake Park was the surprise winner here last year, using the Wheeling Hardwood Classic as a springboard to an eventual sectional championship.
Most of that core group has moved on, but the Lancers broke open a clare another balanced, gritty, unheralded bunch making their way through another bracket.
Mitchell Jarosinski had 17 points and 10 rebounds, Dan Hynes had 16 points and Bailey Vance added 14 in the victory. Lake Park advanced to the semifinals with a 61-51 victory over Niles North in the second round of the Wheelin Hardwood Classic on Tuesday.
Lake Park (6-3) will face No. 13 Notre Dame (9-2) in a rematch of last year's title game in Wednesday's semifinals.
Prospect 58, Vernon Hills 47: Sophomore Frankie Mack scored 19 points and Matt Szuba had seven points, 14 rebounds and six assists for Prospect (6-5). The Knights will face MSL East rival Buffalo Grove on Wednesday. Tanner Tolari scored 16 points for Vernon Hills (6-6).
Buffalo Grove 56, Dundee-Crown 28: Jack Vaselaney led a balanced attack with 11 points, as 12 Bison scored in the consolation victory. Mac Camardo had five points, 12 rebounds and three blocked shots for Buffalo Grove (4-7).
Glenbrook South 63, Streamwood 56: Jim Martinelli's 18 points, eight rebounds and three assists powered Glenbrook South (4-6) in the consolation bracket. Jaleel Jenkins had 11 points, four rebounds and three steals for Streamwood (1-10).
Wheeling 50, Maine West 39: Nicholas Janulis had 15 points and six rebounds and Patrick Szpir added six points and 11 rebounds for the host Wildcats (4-8), who will take on Glenbrook South on Wednesday.
