Dec. 31--If Bogan was a candidate for a letdown game, James Jones wouldn't have any of it.
A night after blowing an 11-point lead in the Proviso West Holiday Tournament semifinals and losing in double overtime, No. 9 Bogan and Jones finished an impressive tournament run with a 68-53 victory over No. 6 St. Joseph in Wednesday's third-place game in Hillside.
The 6-foot-2 Jones, a Buffalo recruit, erupted for 21 of his game-high 28 points in the first half as the Bengals (10-3) built a 20-point halftime lead.
Jones was 11-for-17 from the field and 4 of 6 on 3-pointers and finished the tournament with 89 points in four games.
Nate Townsen added 17 points, Marcus Cole had 12 points and eight rebounds, and Bryce Barnes seven points, nine rebounds and five assists for Bogan.
Nick Rakocevic had 14 points, 11 rebounds and five assists for St. Joseph (11-2).
Young 69, Proviso East 49: Lucas Williamson scored 14 points and Xavier Castaneda handed out 10 assists for the Dolphins (6-4), who built a 20-point halftime lead and claimed fifth place.
Antonio Williams finished an impressive tournament with 13 points and 13 rebounds for Proviso East (6-4).
Proviso West 37, Hillcrest 35: Emmanuel Cross' 3-pointer with 25 seconds remaining gave Proviso West the lead for good as the host school won for the third straight day to take the consolation title.
Cross scored 13 points, and Ronnie Allgood had 10 points and seven rebounds for the Panthers (5-4). Marcus Garrett scored 19 points for Hillcrest (9-4).
Dunbar 68, Providence-St. Mel 44: Sir Melvin Lamb had 13 points, six rebounds and three blocked shots for Dunbar (4-7).
Keyshaun Brown added 12 points and six steals and Trayvon Ross 12 points and five steals for the Mightymen. Eddie Burnett had 12 points and seven rebounds for St. Mel (4-9).
New Trier 72, Von Steuben 47: Colin Winchester had 22 points and eight rebounds and Spencer Boehm added 16 points as the Trevians (6-8) salvaged a victory. Noel Lorenzo scored 21 points for Von Steuben (4-5).
