Armed officers, dog units and a police helicopter were scrambled to south Liverpool during a chase last night.
Patrols spotted a suspected stolen Ford Mondeo in Allerton at around 10.50pm.
Picking up the vehicle around Hillfoot Road and Menlove Avenue, officers spotted it being driven through a red light.
A 10 minute chase then followed, with the National Police Air Service dispatching a helicopter for the pursuit.
The car came to a stop in Sefton Park , where neighbours reported hearing sirens and spotting a convoy of police vehicles around 11pm.
Those inside the vehicle fled.
Three boys - two aged 16 and one aged 15 - were detained a short time later.
They were arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and aggravated unauthorised taking of a motor vehicle.
