Boys aged 12 and 13 arrested after huge fire at industrial estate

Two boys aged 12 and 13 have been arrested after a huge fire tore through an industrial estate.

Detectives from Cheshire Police are working with investigators from Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service to establish the cause of the incident.

A spokesman for the police force said: "As part of our enquiries, officers have arrested two boys, aged 13 and 12."

The boys have been arrested on suspicion of arson.

Cheshire Fire & Rescue Service declared a major incident after the on the Golden Triangle industrial estate at around 9pm, last night.

The fire, in Harrison Street, Hale bank in Widnes was visible from as far away as the Wirral  as up to 16 fire engines, an aerial ladder platform and a National Police Air Service (NPAS) helicopter attended the scene.

A video of the wreckage, shared this morning by Bollington Fire Station's Twitter account, shows the blackened, twisted metal frames of buildings and the burned shells of vehicles, while firefighters continue to spray jets of water into the fire.

Some residents are still not in their homes after being evacuated at around 11.30pm last night when the flames moved dangerously close to houses.

from within the industrial estate and Cheshire fire service established a 300m cordon.

In the latest update by Cheshire Fire service the team reported that roads have reopened and there appears to be no damage to nearby homes as a result of the blaze.

In a statement the service said: "There is believed to be no fire damage to any of the nearby properties and an investigation into the cause of the fire is currently underway.

"This incident will be updated as more information becomes available.

“Road closures have now been lifted although disruption is likely to remain in the area.

"The industrial site remains closed while the investigation is ongoing.”

Firefighters continue to be present at the scene to dampen down the area and monitor the cylinders on site. .
