Boy with cerebral palsy inspired by Colonel Tom Moore to raise funds for coronavirus victims

A nine-year-old boy with cerebral palsy has been inspired to raise funds to help families cover costs of funerals during the coronavirus pandemic.

Little Ethan Beardow, who uses a walker to aid him when walking, has seen his family affected by coronavirus after his grandad and aunt died of the illness.

To help families struggling with costs during these unprecedented times, Ethan has taken inspiration from Captain Tom Moore, who has now been made a colonel, to walk 100 laps of his street to help pay for funerals of coronavirus victims.

Speaking of his fundraising efforts on Good Morning Britain, Ethan said: "I asked my mum if we can raise money for funerals because you don't expect to die from Covid-19 so early."

GMB presenter Susanna Reid praised his efforts.

She said: "It is quite remarkable that as a result you've been thinking about the pressure on other families and you want to raise money to help other families."

Ethan plans to walk 100 laps before his tenth birthday on May 18.

Co-host Ben Shephard was also full of praise for Ethan.

Ethan's proud dad, Ivan, said: "He's always doing things like that, thinking of others."

Ben described Ethan as "determined" and said: "It sounds like undoubtedly you will do it."

Susanna added: "It's a remarkable aim."

After the interview, Ben said: "At the age of nine, to pick up on... the effect that his family have been through... I think it's such an extraordinary expression of spirit."

During the interview, Ethan was asked how much money he'd raised so far.

Ethan said it was £2,000 but shortly after the interview, Susanna Reid and Ben Shephard revealed the amount had jumped to more than £23,000.
