Boy wins £3,500 payout after teachers wrongly accused him of wearing ISIS T-shirt

An 11-year-old schoolboy has won a £3,500 payout after his teachers wrongly accused him of wearing a T-shirt supporting ISIS.

The boy, who cannot be named for confidentiality reasons, turned up at class when he was eight years old, wearing a top with a slogan: 'I want to be like Abu Bakr al-Siddique' - a much-loved and respected figure in Islam.

But he was reported to social services by the teachers fearing it supported Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, the Iraqi extremist leader of the terror group.

The boy was then questioned by social workers for his choice of clothing in a formal interview, according to The Sun.

His mother said social services had recorded a caution against the child, and said they had discussed de-radicalisation.

The boy, who is now aged 11, was left traumatised by the incident and is now reluctant to speak up in class, said his family.

Tower Hamlets Council in east London paid a £3,500 compensation payout to the boy for a breach of the 1988 Human Rights Act.

A spokeswoman for the council said: "There is a confidentiality agreement in relation to this insurance settlement and we are unable to comment."
