Boy who would be king: 6-year-old reels in really big Chinook to earn Fish of the Week

Charlie Nega gets some help from his dad Mark holding a really big Chinook. | Provided

Charlie Nega, 6, reeled in a 20.68-pound Chinook Friday fishing out of North Point Marina to earn Fish of the Week honors.

“He reeled it in himself,” his dad Mark Nega emailed.

That’s a feat in itself, then add on it was caught on 300 feet of copper with three colors of Lead Core line and a fluorocarbon leader.

That’s a FOTW.

FOTW, the celebration of big fish and their stories (the stories matter, as this one shows) around Chicago fishing, runs Wednesdays in the Sun-Times.
