Boy thrown 100ft from Tate Modern 'suffered brain bleed and fractured spine'

A six-year-old boy who was thrown from the 10th floor viewing platform of a London art gallery suffered a brain bleed and fractures to his spine, legs and arms, a court has heard.

The French boy, who was on a family holiday, fell more than 100ft and landed on a roof five floors down.

A 17-year-old male from Northolt, west London, appeared in Bromley Youth Court yesterday charged with attempted murder.

The youth, who can’t be identified for legal reasons, spoke only to confirm his name, age, address and British nationality.

He was remanded into a youth detention centre and will appear at the Old Bailey tomorrow.

Prosecutor Sian Morgan said the boy was visiting the Tate with his parents. She added they were “enjoying the views” when he moved a “couple of feet” from his parents.

Morgan said: “It was then that the defendant, without any warning or provocation, picked up the boy and threw him over the viewing platform.”

Police yesterday said the boy’s condition was “critical but stable”.
