Boy, three, injured and left 'covered in glass' in bus attack

A little boy was 'covered in glass' after yobs threw stones at a bus full of passengers.

During the attack one of the Stagecoach windows was smashed, leaving the three-year-old and his guardian with cuts to their arms.

The pair were taken to hospital but 'thankfully' were able to return home with no serious injuries.

Travel Safe officers and a Stagecoach representatives visited the boy to see how he was doing, and Stagecoach provided him with some toys which were matched in donation by Argos to aid with his recovery.

Merseyside police said that this was one of a number of criminal damage incidents to buses in the Kirkby area in the last few weeks.

A spokesperson said: "Officers from Merseyside Police continue to work with Stagecoach, Travel Safe and Knowsley Council Safer Communities Team to ensure those responsible for this dangerous and reckless behaviour are identified and dealt with appropriately."

On Monday one local resident posted in a Kirkby Facebook group about an incident.

They said: "I can say how disgusted I am with the younger generation throwing stones at buses were there is a baby on board.

"It’s time we stopped and thought where are my children as I was coming home from work and it’s unacceptable."

Inspector Dave Morgan said: "I would like to remind those who engage in criminal damage to buses that not only are they committing an offence but they are also risking serious harm to the staff and passengers on board and denying a vital service to the community.

"If someone was seriously injured, whoever was responsible would have to live and deal with the consequences - so for those considering this sort of recklessness, I’d urge them to seriously consider the negative impact it could have.

"I would ask that parents ensure it is not their children who are involved in these offences, and would encourage members of the community with any information or concerns to report them via Twitter @MerPolCC or by calling 101."

A spokesperson added: "To tackle further incidents and ensure this vital bus service remains safe and available for the community, uniformed and plain clothed officers from the Kirkby Community Team will join representatives from Stagecoach to patrol key locations in the area in the coming days."
