A 12-year-old boy was taken to hospital after firefighters rushed to a Lanarkshire business park on Monday night following reports of an “explosion”.

Residents living in the area reported a loud bang just before 9pm with some saying they felt the blast as their houses shook.

Four appliances from Scottish Fire and Rescue Service attended and discovered a skip and a lorry on fire at Bedlay View in Tannochside Business Park.

The fire was extinguished with firefighters remaining at the scene until just before midnight.

An admin for Facebook group, G71 Bothwell & Uddingston Community Forum urged residents living nearby to ensure access to the area for emergency services was not impeded by parked cars, and to close windows and doors until there was, “no immediate environmental threat from the resulting explosion”.

Steven Bonnar MP also posted on social media: “Constituents may have been aware of a rather loud explosion a short while ago.

“The source of which is in the Tannochside Business Park area of the constituency.

“The Emergency Services are in situ and road closures and diversions are in place.

“Further details will be made available from local councillor Barry McCluskey who has attended at the site and spoken to the officers in charge.”
