Boy taken to hospital and another arrested after police respond to reports of stabbing at tram stop

A boy has been taken to hospital and another arrested after reports of a stabbing at the Edge Lane Metrolink stop in Droylsden.

Greater Manchester Police were called to the incident at the tram station at around 8pm on Saturday evening.

On arrival they found a juvenile male with injuries. He was treated at the scene by North West Ambulance Service before being transferred to hospital.

Police said this evening that the boy was in a stable condition and that another boy had been arrested on suspicion of assault and is currently in custody.

Eyewitnesses said that a large police presence was in place with around ten emergency services vehicles in attendance.

Images taken tonight showed a significant police cordon around the scene and what appeared to be a battering ram lying on the floor.

Police have not confirmed the ages of the individuals involved in the incident and have not confirmed it was a stabbing or any other details.

Unconfirmed eyewitness accounts suggested both the boys were teenagers.

A spokesman for GMP said: "At around 8:00pm on Saturday 6 February, police were called to a reported stabbing at the Edge Lane Metrolink Stop, Droylsden.

"A juvenile male was treated at the scene by NWAS and then transferred to hospital.

"Anyone with any information is asked to contact Police on 101 quoting reference number 2582 06/02/21 or alternatively details can be passed anonymously via the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111."
