Boy suffers serious eye injury after school javelin mishap

The student remains in a serious but stable condition.

A Sunshine Coast school boy in his early teens has been flown to the Lady Cilento Children's Hospital in Brisbane with a traumatic injury after being hit in the eye with a javelin.

The Sunshine Beach State High School student is believed to have been carrying the javelin off the oval when the sharp end caught in the ground, flicking the blunt end into the boy's eye.

Paramedics from the Queensland Ambulance Service treated the boy at the scene before the Sunshine Coast-based rescue helicopter landed on the oval and flew him, along with his mother, to hospital.

He remains in a serious but stable condition.
