This is the 78th Street Theatre Lab's take on the true story of Darius, a man who has become a myth for his obsessive love of trains.
After he is the victim of a school stabbing, Darius plays truant and hangs out at the New York subway depot. Soon he knows more about the trains than the workers, and is driving them for staff, who see the opportunity to skive off. Then he is caught. The press dub him the boy who stole a train, although he was doing a favour for someone. Darius gets a criminal record. Next time he is caught, he ends up in prison.
This is an engaging odyssey through the underworld of the New York subway and the obsessive mind of one man. It loses energy as it charts the injustices of the penal system, but is a punchy look at the thin line between normality and obsession.
