Boy shot as tearful mourners gather on first anniversary of 15-year-old's murder

A boy was shot in broad daylight as crowds gathered to mourn the death of a teenager on the first anniversary of the 15-year-old's murder.

The 17-year-old victim was rushed to hospital after he was gunned in the foot at around 3pm on Friday.

Bullets were fired in Handsworth Birmingham, where mourners had amassed to pay their respects to Keon Lincoln, a 15-year-old boy who was murdered in the area on January 21, 2021.

Detective Sergeant McCullogh, from West Midlands Police CID, said: “This is a shocking thing to happen in broad daylight and while people were paying their respects after the tragic loss of Keon last year.

"There remains so much sadness following his death. Guns have no place on our streets, they cause misery and harm and we do not want to see more people injured or killed because of them.

"I’d encourage anyone who has any information to contact us – anonymously if you prefer – because as we’ve seen here, and when Keon was murdered, carrying weapons is dangerous and causes heartbreak."

Keon was savagely attacked by fellow youngsters, who "moved as a pack" last year, reports Birmingham Live.

The teenager suffered eight sharp force injuries and an injury to a major artery. He died two hours later at Birmingham Children's Hospital.

Five teenagers were jailed - four for life - over his death last November.

Lifting a court order, Lord Justice William Davis named gunman Yussuf Mustapha who, at 14, was unmasked as the youngest ever gun killer.

Mustapha shot Keon in the stomach as he lay in the street, a court heard.
