Boy, seven, mown down by car in Airdrie street as police launch probe

A seven-year-old boy is in hospital after being mowed down by a car in North Lanarkshire.

Police raced to Gartleahill in Airdrie when the alarm was raised at around 5.30pm on Tuesday.

The schoolboy was rushed to Glasgow's Royal Hospital for Children.

The nature of his injuries and current condition are not yet known.

Police closed off the residential road to continue their investigation into the horror incident.

A spokesperson from Police Scotland told our sister title, Glasgow Live : "We received a report of a crash involving a car and a child on Gartleahill, Airdrie, around 5.30pm on Tuesday, October 13.

"A seven-year-old boy has been taken to the Royal Hospital for Children by ambulance.

"The road is currently closed whilst enquiries are carried out."
