Boy seriously injured in cyclist hit-and-run

A child remains in hospital with serious head injuries after being hit by a cyclist in Wigan.

The incident happened on the A58 Lily Lane, close to the junction of Warrington Road, just after 3.30pm on Monday (March 15).

It is believed the collision involved a cyclist and a pedestrian.

The pedestrian - a 15-year-old boy - was taken to hospital with serious head injuries.

He remains there in a stable condition, a spokesman for GMP said.

The cyclist did not stop at the scene.

No arrests have been made and officers are appealing for anyone with information anyone to come forward.

Sergeant Andrew Page, of GMP's serious collision investigation unit, said: "We believe someone may hold information that may be able to assist us with our ongoing enquiries after a young boy suffered serious injuries.

"He continues to make his recovery in hospital and our thoughts are with him and the family at this time.

"Our focus is to speak to those involved, and understand the full circumstances of how this incident came about."

Anyone with information should contact police on 0161 856 4741 quoting 2255 of 16/03/2021 or the independent charity - Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
