Boy seriously hurt after falling from car park in Bury

A boy was seriously hurt after falling from a car park in Bury town centre

Emergency services were called to Clerke Street, near Mill Gate Shopping Centre, just before 9am on Thursday (September 10).

A 15-year-old boy reportedly fell from a building, believed to be a multi-story car park.

He was taken to hospital with 'serious injuries', where he remains.

St Gabriel's Roman Catholic High School, where the teenager is believed to be a student, released a statement in the wake of the incident.

Headteacher Lisa Corrigan wrote: “It is with sadness that I can confirm that one of our pupils is in hospital following an incident yesterday morning.

'Our thoughts and prayers are very much with the pupil and their family at this difficult time' (Sean Hansford)

“The news of this incident came as a tremendous shock to the whole school community and we are working together to ensure that appropriate support is made available to all of our pupils and colleagues.

“Our thoughts and prayers are very much with the pupil and their family at this difficult time.”

A spokesman for GMP said there are not thought to be any circumstances surrounding the incident.

In a statement, the force said: “Shortly before 9am yesterday (10 September 2020), officers were called to a report of a boy who had fallen from a building on Clerke Street in Bury.

“Emergency services attended and the 15-year-old boy was taken to hospital with serious injuries where he remains.

“There are believed to be no suspicious circumstances at this time but enquiries are on-going.”

A spokesman for NWAS said: “We were called to Clerke Street at 8.47am. We attended with an ambulance, advanced paramedics and a rapid response vehicle.

“We took a male patient in his mid-teens to hospital in a serious condition.”

Mill Gate Shopping Centre announced the car park had been closed due to 'unforeseen circumstances' on Thursday.

Shoppers were asked to find alternative parking arrangements. The car park was shut for around four hours.
