Boy saved after dangling by his head from fifth-storey balcony

The boy had been left home lone when he wandered out onto his balcony and slipped through the grille.

A four-year-old boy in Taiwan has been rescued after he was left dangling off his fifth-storey balcony for half an hour.

The young child, who was left home alone by his parents, went to the balcony of his apartment in Pingtung City on Saturday and slipped through the security grille.

He was prevented from plunging to his death because his head was caught between the bars.

In a video recorded by a neighbour, the boy appears to be trying to hold his weight up with his arms.

Neighbours saw the boy at about 11:15am and called the police.

The video also shows a rescuer rappelling down to reach the boy from the floor above, and a ladder truck was also deployed to assist the rescue.

According to a doctor, the child suffered only minor injuries to his head and ears.
