Boy's sudden death in town centre car park is 'unexplained', say police

A teenager has died after he was found seriously injured in a car park in Motherwell.

The 17-year-old was discovered in the car park near Motherwell Civic Centre in the North Lanarkshire town shortly after 9.30am on Sunday.

He was pronounced dead at the scene a short time later, Daily Record reports.

Police said his death is being treated as 'unexplained' and his family have been informed.

A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: "We can confirm a 17-year-old man was found seriously injured in a car park near Motherwell Civic Centre shortly after 9.30am on Sunday, 12 July.

"His death is being treated as unexplained.

"A report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal in due course."
